SIERRA LEONE YOUTHS FOR DEMOCRATIC PRACTICE
I am the founder of an organization name Sierra leone youths for democratic practice, we all working to change sierra leone as to take on the challenges our sierra leone is facing, we have seen youths engaged around the country in violence during and after election, I need the youths of sierra leone to practice democracy with no violence and respect the rule of law. What does democracy mean to Serra leone youths? What is democracy to the youths? How do they youths know when they see it? What are its defining principles and features? Democracy consist of three central components: popular sovereignty, or notion that Government must emanate from the people and remain effective accountable for them; guaranteed civil rights and liberties; and the economic well-being of the population. These three components are all _base_d on fundamental democratic values such as freedom, tolerance and equality and on the principle of the rule of law. Elections alone are not sufficient to constitute sierra leone as a democratic country. Many countries in the world keep grip on power while staging manipulated or fraudulent elections, denying fundamental civil right and freedoms, and violating or ignoring other democratic concepts. Before a democratic institutions and practices can work effectively in sierra leone, at the very least our key leaders must agree and accept the fundamental values of democracy and must seek to maximize cooperation in other political parties and these leaders should represent our country principal ethnic and religious groups, socioeconomic classes and other political associates, and our leaders should be willing to share power fairly and deal with conflicts peacefully on the basis of agreed upon decision making procedures, enforce the rule of law mutual respect and compromise. Our present government should govern by agreement and be oppose to intimidation, and violence. For democracy to succeed in sierra leone , we must want it and willing to practice it. After eleven years of civil that the finally ended in 2002. sierra leone is dealing with anti social crimes, these crimes are on the rise from teenage pregnancy, teenage prostitution, human trafficking, child labor HIV/ AIDS, drug use and youths involving in political violence in the country.
